Listening Notes
- "It's All Good" is a perfect first track for an album, but it's also amazing to feel every sound and the entire song coursing through your veins, if you get the chance to catch it live.
- This is one of my favorite albums of all time. I've listened to this album so many times that it's hard to separate between the music and what I'm feeling right now listening to it, and everything I've ever felt every time I've had a meaningful moment with this album.
- Dancing while seeing them live with one of my besties, having an ethereal experience when they played "Nobody Cares" and forgetting I was in a room full of people while also recognizing my body moved synchronously with many bodies in this crowd of folks all feeling the shit out of this song in different ways.
- "SPRORGNSM" still pulls me out of whatever I am doing while I listen to it, which is perfect because then I am prepped to spend the full 2min:45sec of "Something for Your M.I.N.D." lost in the song, moving my body unapologetically in whichever ways it sees fit (controlled only if there are other people or furniture around).
- Before seeing "The Prawn Song" live it was just a fun song to dance to, but something in the combination of the video footage and graphics projected on the stage backdrop, the energy of everyone, the level of synchronization of movement in the entire room, or the people on stage doing that prawn dance... Now I can't listen to it without feeling all of that again. I like that "Relax" comes on next and helps bring me back to where I am so I'm not stuck in that moment for too long.
- Every song on the album will make you want to move your body even if you don't identify with the lyrics. It's a great full album to randomize in a 100+ song dance playlist. (There are several other albums like this, I'll try to remember to mention it when I get to them.)
- The full album is an experience to me, but that means it's hard for me to listen to single tracks without creating a yearning to listen to it all in order (which is part of why I think it's a good full album to mix into a large playlist, it's nice knowing all the songs will eventually come up).
- Lyrically, many of the songs on the album validated lifestyle things, but emotionally/physically, listening to this album over almost a decade has made me feel more at home in my body. It is impossible to feel embarassed dancing to this. When I saw them the first time in 2018, I was actively trying to get over my anxiety about dancing in front of other people and it was a great addition to that portfolio of experiences. I still felt anxiety but it was significantly less.
